Start the season with an organized purse

This is the time of year many women will change from one purse or hand bag to a different one. Having an organized purse will help in living an organized life, time management and stress reduction. Think about how many times you have fumbled for your keys, your wallet or other important items. While you were searching was there a sudden feeling of panic? Most of us have had this happen before – if you would like to avoid it from happening again just follow these simple rules.

To organize your purse you will have to start by emptying the entire contents and sort into piles of “keep”, “toss” or “store elsewhere”. Once you have dealt with everything that doesn’t belong in your bag it’s time to start categorizing the keepers into different zones.

First there is your financial zone, where you keep your wallet, checkbook, receipts, coupon book, etc. Second you want to designate a communication zone for your cell phone, pen, notebook and day planner. Next there should be the personal care section for your tissues, lipstick and medicine. Snacks such as mints and gum may make up another zone as well.

At this point you will have to decide how to store each category of items since you want to containerize them together for easy accessibility. I recommend evaluating your bag to see if you already have efficient compartments available to house each section of items or if you need to find appropriately sized (zippered) storage pouches to keep within your bag.

The key to keeping an organized bag is to continuously return the items back to their intended homes and by regularly scheduled clean-outs. Try to have a special place for frequently used items such as your keys to avoid stressful searches.

There are many pouch options available to house your items, from clear vinyl to designer fabrics. Some people prefer the clear style to easily identify what they are looking for while others choose different colors of fabric for each “zone”. There are also complete organizers available that easily transfer from bag to bag in seconds (such as this style by Etsy) The choice depends on your preference and needs.
